Natural Pruning and Landscaping is owned by Allen Wilson.  Allen is a retired Professor of Landscape Horticulture. He started gardening as a teenager on his family’s one acre property. By age 14, he was largely responsible for home landscape maintenance. At age 16 he began working part time in a garden store managed by his father. He completed a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Horticulture at Colorado State University. This was followed by a master’s degree in Horticulture Science at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Allen worked for 5 years as an agricultural extension horticulture specialist in Florida and California. He was Horticulturist and Sales Manager for Goldsmith Seeds Inc. in Gilroy, California for 8 years. Goldsmith is one of the leading developers and producers of flower seeds in the world. He then spent almost 23 years teaching Landscape Horticulture at Ricks College (now Brigham Young University–Idaho) in Rexburg, Idaho. BYU-Idaho is recognized as one of the premier teaching programs in Landscape Horticulture in America.

Allen has lived and gardened in Vancouver, Washington since 2007. Natural Pruning & Landscaping has been serving residential and commercial customers in Vancouver and Clark County Washington and adjacent areas of the Portland metro area since 2008.

With over 40 years of experience in all phases of horticulture, Allen has the unique ability to solve almost any landscape problem. He has written newspaper garden columns for over 25 years. A monthly email garden newsletter for the Pacific Northwest is now emailed to over 800 Northwest readers. Recent newsletters can be reviewed on this web site.
